The First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, vehemently denied any link to the crimes committed by Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday, a scandal that her husband, President Donald Trump, has long downplayed. “The lies associating me with the despicable character that is Jeffrey Epstein must stop today,” Melania Trump declared in front of the cameras during a surprise appearance at the White House.
“People who lie about me are devoid of any ethics, humility, and respect,” she added. It was not immediately clear what Melania Trump was referring to, or why she chose to speak out this Thursday. “For years, many false images and statements regarding Epstein and even myself have circulated on social media. Be wary of what you believe. These images and narratives are completely false,” the First Lady continued.
“I have never been involved in any way”
Jeffrey Epstein was arrested and charged in July 2019 for the sexual exploitation of minors and conspiracy. He was found hanged in his cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial. The autopsy concluded it was a suicide.
The U.S. Department of Justice has released over three million files related to the investigation into the disgraced financier, showing the extent of his connections to prominent figures. “I have never been aware of the abuses committed by Epstein against his victims. I have never been involved in any way. I have not taken part in it,” Melania Trump stated, while photos showed her, as well as Donald Trump, at events with Jeffrey Epstein during New York’s high society soirées.
“I have never been accused or convicted of a crime related to sex trafficking, child abuse, and other repugnant behaviors of Epstein,” she reiterated, urging Congress to hold a public hearing for Epstein’s abuse survivors to “give these victims the opportunity to testify under oath.”
