Her disappearance hid abandonment. A young American mother, who had entrusted her 4-year-old daughter to her roommate “for a few hours” without giving any further information, had actually decided to disappear.
The case, reported by Ouest-France, begins on March 15. Yasmin, the 21-year-old mother, leaves her child with her friend to supposedly visit her family in Tijuana, on the Mexican side of the border.

However, when she was supposed to return that evening, she was still missing the next day. Her roommate couldn’t reach her, so she notified the Santa Ana police (California).
Law enforcement quickly issued a missing person’s alert. “She always had someone to take care of her daughter. She never left for more than two days without her, so it was very suspicious to us,” said the police.
A few days later, the news came out: the young mother was “in Mexico of her own will.” No cause for concern about her disappearance, just a runaway. Her 4-year-old daughter was placed in child protective services.
Girls found wandering the streets in Minguettes
Last summer in Vénissieux, a suburb of Lyon, two children aged 6 and 2 were found wandering the streets, claiming that “their mother had gone on vacation.”
The two minors, who reportedly spent three nights outside, were taken in by the Departmental Institute for Children and Family (IDEF), a structure specialized in emergency care for minors. An investigation was opened for parental neglect.
