Ceasefire between Iran and the United States, Jacques Paris and Cécile Kohler soon in France

Each cries victory, the United States and Iran, after the announcement last night of a two-week ceasefire in exchange for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. In the midst of this still unresolved conflict, there is relief for the French State and the loved ones of Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris: the two teachers should be back in Paris in the morning.

They are returning after almost four very difficult years in Iran. They had been arrested, imprisoned, and convicted, especially for espionage, before leaving the infamous Evin prison in November. Since then, they had been prohibited from leaving the Islamic Republic and had been living under house arrest at the French embassy in Tehran.

“In no way and in no way have we linked the fate of our hostages to France’s foreign policy choices,” assured French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot on France 2 Tuesday night.
