California Mother Accused of Abandoning 4-Year-Old Daughter and Fleeing to Mexico
According to American police, a mother from California allegedly intentionally abandoned her 4-year-old daughter and left for Mexico.
The mother, who resides in Santa Ana, California, asked her roommate to watch her 4-year-old daughter for a few hours and never returned. She is suspected of voluntarily abandoning her daughter and going to Mexico in March, as reported by CBS.
The 21-year-old woman told her roommate that she needed to visit her brother in the vicinity of Tijuana, Mexico, before leaving with relatives. She claimed she would be gone for only one day.
The Child Taken into Care
“Unfortunately, our agents made numerous attempts to contact Yasmin’s brother and mother, but they were not very cooperative,” the police department stated. They also could not confirm if the woman’s brother actually lived in the Tijuana area.
The roommate also tried to reach the mother without success. Consequently, the child “was handed over to child protective services,” stated law enforcement officials, as reported by American media.
Intentional Abandonment, According to the Police
The woman’s absence is considered unusual by the police. “She would take her to preschool. She would come back home. She was working, but she always had someone watching her daughter. She never left for more than a few days with her daughter, so it’s very suspicious to us,” they said.
