Donald Trump fired his Justice Minister Pam Bondi on Thursday, one of his loyal supporters, criticized for her handling of the Epstein case. This decision comes after criticism from both Republicans and Democrats about her handling of the case of the sex criminal, who died in prison in 2019, as well as a series of failures by her ministry to prosecute targets explicitly designated by the American president.

Donald Trump praised the outgoing minister’s action against criminality on his Truth Social network, stating that she will be relocated “in the private sector.” Pam Bondi thanked the president for entrusting her with this position, calling it “the honor of a lifetime,” and announced that she would facilitate the transition with Todd Blanche, former personal attorney of Donald Trump and currently the number 2 in the ministry.

Todd Blanche was at the forefront of the Epstein case when the Justice Department released over three million pages of the sex criminal’s file on January 30 under a law passed by Congress. Donald Trump is considering appointing Lee Zeldin, head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to replace Pam Bondi, as reported by several media outlets.

“Most corrupt Minister in history”

The leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, praised the departure of “the most corrupt Minister of Justice in modern American history.” He added that this long-awaited dismissal would not be enough to restore the credibility of the Justice Ministry or rehabilitate this corrupt and out-of-control administration.

According to Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, Pam Bondi will be remembered for obstructing the release of Epstein case documents and using the Justice Department against Donald Trump’s political opponents. Dick Durbin, the top Democratic member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, also accused Pam Bondi of “instrumentalization for Donald Trump’s personal benefit,” while noting that she did not go far enough to please him.

Several media outlets, including ABC and MS Now, attribute Pam Bondi’s dismissal to Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with her failure to sufficiently indict his personal enemies, while The New York Times and CNN explain it by her handling of the Epstein case. As Justice Minister, Pam Bondi was known for her unwavering defense of the Republican president, particularly during contentious hearings in Congress.

“Trump’s instrument of revenge”

In February, several Democratic members accused her of “burying” the Epstein case by not fulfilling the law requiring the Trump administration to provide full transparency on this explosive issue. They also called her out on the criminal prosecutions guided by the president against targets of his vendetta, many of which failed spectacularly.

“You have turned the Justice Department, meant to serve the people, into Trump’s instrument of revenge. Trump orders indictments like he would order pizzas, and you comply,” Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, told her.

The justice system has overturned the indictments of former FBI Director James Comey and New York State Attorney General Letitia James. Citizen juries have refused to indict six Democratic lawmakers who had urged the military to disobey the “illegal orders” of the administration.
