The United States urged Spain to investigate the euthanasia of the young woman, which became a recent critique of President Donald Trump’s administration towards the left-wing European country.
The Spanish parliament legalized euthanasia in 2021, making Spain one of the few countries where terminally ill patients can receive assistance to die to avoid unbearable suffering.
Under Donald Trump, the United States openly criticized European allies for their domestic policies, including hate speech restrictions and immigration policies. Spain, under the leadership of Pedro Sanchez, has been particularly targeted, especially after the government’s decision to close its airspace to US aircraft involved in the conflict with Iran.
