An American woman, 46, died on March 19 from a rattlesnake bite. As reported by CBS News, she was bitten five days earlier while hiking at Wildwood Regional Park in Ventura County, California (United States).

According to NBC Los Angeles, the woman was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition and unfortunately died there. Local authorities stated that she succumbed to the effects of the venom. Her death comes just weeks after a 25-year-old man also died from a snake bite while mountain biking in the same area.

Snake bites are “extremely rare,” experts say, and rattlesnake attacks have recently increased due to an unusual heatwave. “These are animals that respond to environmental signals, particularly temperatures that play a very important role in regulating their behavior,” explains a rattlesnake specialist.

However, the specialist emphasizes that deaths caused by rattlesnakes are “extremely rare.” After a bite, it is essential to receive antivenom treatment as soon as possible. To prevent this, hikers are advised to stay on trails, avoid tall grass, wear long pants, and watch where they step. Above all, do not try to intervene on your own.
