Jorge Martin is back in action! This Saturday, the Spanish rider, MotoGP world champion in 2024, won the sprint race at the Grand Prix of the Americas, as part of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship season. The Aprilia rider had not won for 511 days! On November 2, 2024, “Martinator” won his last sprint race on the circuit. It was in Malaysia. After being crowned world champion at the end of that season, 2025 was a true nightmare for him, marked by numerous injuries.
As a result, the rider almost had a blank season. Since the beginning of 2026, Jorge Martin, who now holds the record of 17 sprint race victories, has been gaining momentum. On Saturday, his success came on the tenth and final lap of the race, when the Spaniard managed to overtake the leader, Italian Francesco Bagnaia. Jorge Martin was so happy that he even fell during his victory lap.
Zarco, first French rider
Fortunately, the new world championship leader quickly got back on his feet. With Bagnaia finishing second, the third place went to Acosta. The first French rider of the day is Johann Zarco. He secured the ninth position, while his compatriot Fabio Quartararo settled for eleventh place. It is worth noting that this race caused some damage among the big names in this premier category.
Defending world champion Marc Marquez, who crashed, finished in last place. Marco Bezzecchi, the championship leader before the start of the race, also ended up on the ground. Similarly, his compatriot Fabio Di Giannatonio, who started in pole position. The race weekend is not over yet. In fact, the traditional Grand Prix is still to take place. It will happen this Sunday evening, starting at 10:00 pm French time.
