Lille is now paying the price for their performance in the European double confrontation against Aston Villa. UEFA has imposed heavy fines on the Dogues for incidents that occurred during the reception of the English club at Pierre-Mauroy stadium.
This setback comes at a cost. Following their European disappointment against Aston Villa (3-0 aggregate score), LOSC has received sanctions from UEFA for incidents that took place at Pierre-Mauroy during the reception of the Villans.
According to BirminghamLive, the governing body confirmed disciplinary sanctions on Friday following the first leg on March 12. The northern club was fined a total of 82,750 euros for five offenses, including blocking public passages, throwing objects, setting off fireworks inside the stadium, broadcasting an inappropriate message, and late kickoff.
A bitter taste match
Defeated in the first leg (1-0) and second leg (2-0), Bruno Genesio’s men never found the back of the net in both matches. The Lille coach, whose European ambitions were dashed in the round of 16, was particularly criticized for his tactical approach.
While the opportunity to win the Europa League trophy this year did not materialize, LOSC hopes to try again in the 2026-2027 edition. Currently 5th in Ligue 1 thanks to a crucial victory over Marseille (2-1), the Dogues are in the race for the European spots, level on points with Lyon in 4th place (47 pts). However, they will face a tough challenge after the international break, with the Northern derby against Lens, PSG’s runner-up with 59 points.
