Football – Mbappé denies knee issues
Injured in recent weeks in his left knee, Kylian Mbappé has been making headlines lately. When examining his injury at the beginning of December, Real Madrid doctors reportedly examined the wrong knee, as revealed by RMC and the Spanish media. Quizzed about this before facing Brazil with the French team, the striker denied it. “The information that they examined the wrong knee is not true. I may be indirectly responsible for this situation. When you do not communicate about what you have or what is happening, it opens the door to interpretations and everyone jumps on the bandwagon, that’s the game,” highlighted Mbappé, who is expected to start against Brazil in the United States on Thursday night (9:00 pm).
Cycling – Godon strikes again in the Tour of Catalonia
Like Monday, Dorian Godon stood out. Already the winner of the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia, the Frenchman repeated his success on Wednesday by winning the 3rd stage of the race in a sprint finish. Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard seemed poised for victory but the Belgian fell just before the finish line, allowing the French rider from Ineos Grenadiers to seize the opportunity and beat Ethan Vernon and Noah Hobbs. Godon remains the overall leader with an 11-second lead over Evenepoel.
Alpine skiing – Shiffrin further cements her legend
And it’s the 6th time! Mikaela Shiffrin clinched the big crystal globe for the 6th time on Wednesday, further solidifying her status in skiing and sports history. After a disappointing first run (17th) in the Hafjell giant slalom, the 31-year-old American made amends, finishing 11th in the event and equalling the record of Austria’s Moser-Pröll. Another achievement following her 9th small crystal globe in slalom. Enough to bring tears of joy to her eyes.
Tennis – Rybakina defeats Pegula again
Elena Rybakina seems to take pleasure in beating Jessica Pegula. The world number 2 once again triumphed over the American. After victories in the Australian Open semi-finals and Indian Wells WTA 1000 quarter-finals, the Kazakhstani player defeated the world’s 5th best player in Miami’s WTA 1000. Having won the previous two encounters in 2 sets, the season’s first Grand Slam winner this time prevailed in 3 sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Rugby – UBB and USAP strike deals
Union Bordeaux-Bègles is welcoming a new player now: Hugo Reus. The 22-year-old fly-half was set to leave Perpignan in the next offseason but has arrived early as Bordeaux, dealing with injuries to Joey Carbery and Nicolas Depoortere, reached an agreement with USAP. Simultaneously, USAP signed Scottish lock Jonny Gray (32 years old) as a medical joker.
