Not called up this month by the Central African Republic, Olympique de Marseille midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia clarified the situation on social media.

After wearing the French national team jersey, Geoffrey Kondogbia decided in 2018 to represent the Central African Republic, the country of his ancestors. Therefore, the Olympique de Marseille midfielder was more than surprised when he did not see his name on the extended list revealed by the coach of the Bas-Oubangui Wild Beasts, Eloge Enza Yamissi, for the March gathering. The 33-year-old player took to his Instagram account to express his thoughts.

“I want to address the Central African people, all supporters, and the media to provide clarification regarding my absence from the upcoming national team gathering planned in Bangui during the international break in March. I want to make it clear that I did not refuse to participate in this gathering,” explained Geoffrey Kondogbia before delving into the matter.

The federation’s decision

“About ten days ago, I was informed by the coach, Mr. Eloge Enza Yamissi, that I was not included in the list of selected players, on the decision of the president of the Central African Football Federation,” continued the former captain. “As captain, I am unaware of the nature of this decision. Not being able to reunite with our fans after many years of absence, in this significant week for our country, is deeply disappointing for me. Despite this, my commitment to the national team remains unwavering. My allegiance to the Wild Beasts is intact, and my mission remains the same: to positively contribute to the team and proudly represent our nation whenever the opportunity arises. I thank the people of the Central African Republic for their constant support and loyalty.”

Will we see Geoffrey Kondogbia with the Wild Beasts at the next FIFA meeting in June?
