Crisis in Guadeloupe Football League: Liquidation Decision

On Tuesday, March 24, the Pointe-Ã-Pitre court decided to place the Guadeloupe League into judicial liquidation. The debts amount to around two million euros.

Last March 16, the Pointe-Ã-Pitre commercial court had deliberated on the situation of the Guadeloupe Football League. Facing the risk of liquidation due to accumulated debts of over two million euros, the official decision was made on Tuesday, March 24. The Caribbean entity will cease to exist in its current form. The French Football Federation will oversee the completion of the season competitions. They will also be involved in the creation of a new league to replace the current one. The goal is to clear the debts while allowing Guadeloupean football to start anew. The question of who will lead this new league is a pressing one.

During the executive committee meeting on October 8, 2025, the FFF initiated the legal proceedings. The FFF had turned a blind eye for years to the actions of Jean Dartron, the former president of the Guadeloupe League, who was convicted on September 16, 2025, to a suspended one-year prison sentence, a 15,000 euro fine, and 5 years of ineligibility for illegal appropriation of interests.

Frédéric Thiriez was tasked with conducting an audit of the overseas leagues. The current Secretary General of the FFF, Joëlle Montlouis, was the legal counsel for the Guadeloupe League. This raises questions about the enormous debt, known for over a decade.
