One year and a week after his big debut, Gabriel Santos has left Aubagne-Air Bel this Monday, the club announced via a statement on its social networks. “Gabriel Santos expressed to the management his desire to step back, believing that a new breath could be beneficial to the group. The club accepted his decision by mutual agreement,” wrote the Scaab.
However, the team, at the start of January 2026, completely collapsed, and the 42-year-old coach who was living in Provence for his first experience as a head coach seemed to lose the commitment of his group in the span of two weeks of winter break, now showing the poor record of 7 defeats and a draw in 9 matches since New Year’s Eve, with five consecutive losses, an ongoing streak.
Attached to the club, to Scaab’s sports project, and highly appreciated internally for his professionalism and undeniable friendliness, the coach bid farewell to his very moved group this Monday. He is expected to quickly move on to a new adventure as several Ligue 2 clubs are already interested in his profile.
Kassim Abdallah promoted, one month to find a replacement
Eddy Cardillo, with numerous coaching experiences in the amateur world, naturally took over from Maxence Flachez while waiting for the appointment of the native of Albufeira last season. Kassim Abdallah, on the other hand, will experience his first training sessions and his first match as the number 1 this Friday in Valenciennes at 7:30 pm.
“Kass’s” arrival on the banks of the Huveaune already marked the former full-back’s debut as an assistant coach of a senior team, starting as an assistant coach for the U15s at OM just a year ago alongside his coaching diploma (BEF).
Not holding the necessary Professional Coaching Certificate (BEPF) for the National level, the French-Comorian will not be able to finish the season, and the club has one month to find his successor. Abdallah will, in the meantime, be assisted by Thomas Lebégue, the second assistant for a year and a half, and the usual staff.
