PSG dominates Nice 4-0 to secure top spot in Ligue 1
Five days after their Champions League qualification, PSG was equally effective offensively and secured valuable points on Saturday, March 21 in Nice (4-0) to regain the top spot in Ligue 1. “This is the most important moment, it is vital to win because we need the three points. It’s an opponent in difficulty. We have to win and improve our level away in the league,” Luis Enrique emphasized the day before.
Despite the absence of several starters, PSG showed great offensive efficiency, even if the display was less flamboyant than against Chelsea. Without exerting much effort, they confirmed they were in a better period than at the beginning of the year, unlike Nice, who remained at the bottom of the table (15th, 27 points) despite a recent victory.
Above all, the capital’s players ensured the essentials as they are in a tight race with Lens (2nd, 59 points) before their clash on April 11, knowing that Lens had a decisive victory over Angers on Friday night (5-1). With this success, the reigning French champions secure their third consecutive victory since the heavy defeat (3-1) against Monaco three weeks ago, reclaiming the top spot in Ligue 1 with 60 points, with a game in hand compared to Lens.
First goal by Dro
Parisians opened the scoring with a penalty caused by a handball from Morgan Samson in the box. The Portuguese Nuno Mendes – playing on the left wing in place of the injured Bradley Barcola – ended PSG’s penalty miss streak (1-0, 42nd minute).
Not in his best form, Désiré Doué scored his 5th goal in the league, assisted by Nuno Mendes. The former Rennes player was also close to a second goal (63rd minute), but it was the young midfielder Dro Fernandez (18 years old) who scored PSG’s third goal and his first goal for PSG since arriving from Barcelona in the winter transfer window, following a nice move (3-0, 81st minute).
Warren Zaïre-Emery wrapped up the festival (4-0, 85th minute) with a low pass from defender Lucas Beraldo, who played in a hybrid midfield role. Additionally, the match was characterized by numerous insulting chants against PSG.
