Vahid Halilhodzic is doing everything in his power to avoid relegation with FC Nantes, currently second to last in Ligue 1 and currently facing relegation to Ligue 2. But with a draw against Auxerre this Saturday, the situation for the Canaries is becoming increasingly tense.

The situation in Nantes is critical. With a draw in the crucial match against Auxerre, who are also in a tight spot, the Canaries were unable to find a breakthrough and only managed to come away with a single point, resulting in a draw (0-0). Nantes now finds themselves five points behind Auxerre in order to escape the relegation zone, which would mean dropping to Ligue 2 at the end of the season.

Adding to the pressure is Nantes’ challenging schedule for the remaining six matches of the season. The Canaries will have to face off against four teams from the top 5 of Ligue 1, starting with PSG. Next up will be matches against Rennes, Marseille, and Lens.

“In sports, anything is possible”

After the match, in a press conference, Vahid Halilhodzic expressed his pride in his players’ performance, stating that they gave it their all. “In sports, anything is possible. We remain focused. The guys are doing great training, great work,” he confirmed. “It’s really frustrating and difficult because we really wanted to come back against Auxerre,” he added. The coach of the Canaries is now closer than ever to relegation to Ligue 2.

“The situation is becoming increasingly desperate. My team is under immense pressure. I am really sad for my club. I am trying everything possible to lend a hand and try to save us. Will we succeed? I can’t tell you at this moment,” lamented Vahid Halilhodzic.

Before facing the heavyweights of the league, FC Nantes will have a slightly more manageable opponent in their next match, as they will be hosting Brest, who is currently 11th in Ligue 1, next weekend.
