Real Madrid have been without a victory for three games as they approach their crucial trip to Munich in the Champions League with doubt lingering. After being held by Getafe following two worrying defeats, the Madrid side also sees their chances at the Liga title slipping away dangerously, under the threat of a FC Barcelona creeping closer.
Everything is going wrong at Real Madrid. The signal is clear: they are not winning anymore. Since their hard-fought success in the derby against Atletico Madrid (3-2) on March 22nd, the Merengues have suffered a loss to Mallorca (2-1), a defeat to Bayern Munich (1-2) in the Champions League, and a frustrating draw against Getafe on Friday night. This poor streak goes against the usual standards of the Madrid club and could have serious consequences in the rankings.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona is watching closely. With a victory against Espanyol Barcelona at Camp Nou on Saturday, the Catalans could push Real Madrid nine points behind with only seven matches left in the season. This scenario would almost sound like a fatal blow in the race for the title. Nevertheless, the club refuses to give up. “La Liga is over? We will fight until the last day, it’s over when we lose it. We are Real Madrid, until the end,” insists Arbeloa, determined to maintain a psychological pressure despite the storm.
Struggling stars and a collective without answers before the clash in Munich
On the field, concerns are palpable. Fielding their star offensive trio of Kylian Mbappé-Vinicius Junior-Jude Bellingham, united from the starting whistle for the first time since February 1st, Real Madrid still failed to impose their will against Getafe. A glaring lack of efficiency and an inability to control the game raise doubts about their approach to this crucial meeting.
Realistic, Arbeloa did not make excuses after the match: “We did not deliver our best performance, we know that. It was a game to win. Our team was strong enough to win. And with the effort of the players… we should have scored more.” This observation reflects the current struggles of a team without direction, as seen in Mbappé who has only scored twice in his last seven matches with Madrid.
And there is no respite in the calendar. On Wednesday at 9 pm, Real Madrid will play for their survival in Europe on Bayern’s field, in a second leg quarter-final that looks like a true turning point of the season. Despite everything, the Madrid coach believes in a comeback: “I am convinced that we are all going to Munich with the firm intention of winning. It will be a fierce battle,” he assures, emphasizing the need to be “200%” in Bavarian territory.
