The DNCG unveiled on Tuesday the accounts of French professional clubs. For OM, losses amount to 104.788 million euros in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Only OL does worse over the same period.

A loss exceeding 100 million euros. The National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG), the financial regulator of French football, presented on Tuesday the accounts of professional clubs. Regarding Olympique de Marseille, the balance sheet shows a net loss of 104.788 million euros in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Only Olympique Lyonnais, weighed down at the time by its troubles with John Textor and administratively relegated in the first instance by the financial regulator of French football, shows a bigger deficit over the same period, amounting to 208.568 million euros. Eighth in Ligue 1 in the 2023-2024 season, OM did not compete in European competitions in 2024-2025, which may explain part of the financial hole. Mechanically, this also reduces the revenue at the Vélodrome.

However, since the American owner Frank McCourt took over in 2016, the Phocéen club had never lost so much money in a season. Marseille has been running deficits since the businessman’s arrival. Essentially, this situation forces Frank McCourt to inject liquidity to cover the deficit. Before the 2024-2025 season, the highest loss in a season during McCourt’s era was in 2018-2019, with a deficit of 91 million euros.

Context: DNCG is the financial watchdog overseeing French football clubs.

Fact Check: OM’s losses for the 2024-2025 season were due to lack of European competition and financial challenges under American owner Frank McCourt.

Additional Context: Olympique Lyon also faced financial challenges, significantly outdoing OM in deficit amount for the same period.

Fact Check: OM will need a Champions League qualification to offset financial losses and stabilize their position.
