After a year in charge, Aliou Cissé announced on Wednesday that he was leaving his position as Libya’s head coach.
Aliou Cissé is no longer the coach of Libya. The Senegalese technician announced on Wednesday that he was leaving the helm of the Knights of the Mediterranean, a position he had held since March 2025.
“March has been very special for me as it marked my last gathering as the coach of the Libyan national team. This adventure has been of great professional and personal wealth, and I could not leave without saying a word to you,” wrote Aliou Cissé in a post on his Instagram account.
“Proud of the work done”
“To the staff and players, despite the difficulties we encountered, I am proud of the work we have done together, and the results achieved. I believe a lot in this team and I have no doubt that you will continue your efforts to make it grow,” added the winner of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, before concluding with a message to the public.
“Libyan supporters, I want to thank you for the welcome you have given me, your fervor, and your support. I will not forget you. I know that our knights can always count on you. I wish you all the best for the future.”
Will Aliou Cissé bounce back?
After the North African team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the former PSG and Sedan midfielder leaves after two friendly draws, against Niger (0-0) and Liberia (2-2), amid rumors of unpaid salaries.
At 50 years old, Aliou Cissé finds himself on the market. Will the former African champion bounce back? In this regard, we will closely monitor the vacant benches on the continent, starting with those of Gabon, seeking a successor to Thierry Mouyouma since the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and Ghana, vacant since Otto Addo’s dismissal last week.
