Agricultural Emergency Law: There is going to be some movement

One can understand the government’s willingness to try to solve as many rural problems as possible at once through an emergency law, given the stacking agricultural crises and grievances. However, the colossal text that will be presented this Wednesday at the council of ministers is expected to be well prepared, both tactically and technically, as Didier Deschamps would say. There will be excitement throughout the legislative process of the text. It starts off strong and loaded like a mule.

“Coming out of the agricultural protests earlier this year, our demand was that the text include three subjects,” explains Arnaud Rousseau, the head of FNSEA: water, predation, and production means, including phytosanitary products. The government has decided to significantly broaden the scope of the law. In five titles and 23 articles, the project will address topics as diverse as water catchments, livestock buildings and their environmental authorizations, future contracts for food sovereignty, ecological compensations in case of agricultural land preempted for infrastructure projects, supplies to public canteens restricted to the European Union… The list is non-exhaustive.
