FC Metz won 3-0 against Le Mans FC this Sunday at Frescaty. The Metz team finally emerged from a long negative spiral and the battle for survival in Second League is now in full swing.
The Metz team has finally tasted victory again! FC Metz (11th) faced off against Le Mans FC (4th) this Sunday in the eighteenth round of Second League. A crucial match for coach Marine Morel and her players, who were desperate for points. After the alarm bells rang following the team’s drop into the relegation zone a few days ago, the Mosellanes had no choice but to get a result against Le Mans FC. Especially since Rodez, just ahead in the rankings, could have increased the gap with their victory against Guingamp (1–2).
A great start to the match
This Sunday, it was thanks to a surprising Metz team that the women managed to break free from the trap of this eighteenth round. They made a perfect start to the match by showing a completely different side. Anais Ribeyra led the way for her teammates by scoring the opening goal of the match (1-0, 25′). Then Metz capitalized on their strong period to extend the lead. On a corner kick, Maria Fodil took advantage of a haphazard clearance by the visitors to chip in a soaring shot that left the Le Mans goal-keeper motionless (2-0, 29′). A sigh of relief for the Metz team who exploded with joy after this second goal. Le Mans FC failed to reduce the gap before halftime, allowing FC Metz to go back to the dressing room with a two-goal lead.
Returning for the second half full of confidence, the Metz women did not want to stop there. Again on a corner kick, Maud Antoine capitalized on another defensive blunder by Le Mans to head the ball to Clara Petitjean, who scored the third Metz goal (3-0, 50′). In less than an hour, FC Metz sealed the match, leaving no hope for Le Mans. Marine Morel’s players sealed the end of the game perfectly by keeping a clean sheet.
A victory that must lead to more
A 3-0 success for the Metz team that ends a long negative streak. They had not won in the league since December 7, against a struggling Le Mans FC team (1-2). Despite this victory, the Mosellanes still do not escape the relegation zone due to Rodez’s result. Only two points now separate the two clubs, making the battle for survival exciting. There are four rounds left, four finals for FC Metz to secure their place in Second League. They will start with an away game against Stade de Reims next Saturday, April 25. It remains to be seen if this home victory will allow the Metz team to regroup and chain a second consecutive victory.
