In Lille, the revenge was enjoyed in the heat of the Northern derby against Lens, with a passionate crowd still feeling the burn from the 3-0 defeat last September at Bollaert Stadium.

Lille got their payback by dominating Lens with a 3-0 win on Saturday, further diminishing Lens’ chances in the Ligue 1 title race against PSG. This victory marks Lille’s resurgence, with an eighth unbeaten league match and fifth win in six games. Lille now climbs to third place with 50 points, awaiting Marseille’s tough match against Monaco on Sunday.

This triumph deals a heavy blow to Lens (2nd with 59 points) in their pursuit of PSG, who now lead by four points with a game in hand. Lille fans revel in this victory over their longtime rivals Lens, intensifying the heated derby rivalry.

Lille’s impressive triumph was due to lessons learned from their previous encounter at Bollaert, where they were outmatched by aggressive Lens players. This time, under Bruno Genesio’s guidance, Lille showed a higher level of intensity from the start, excelling in challenges and ball possession.

The Lille goalkeeper, Robin Risser, had to work hard to keep out attempts from Haraldsson and Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who replaced Olivier Giroud upfront. Giroud’s contribution proved pivotal, as he assisted Haraldsson’s opener and played a crucial role in the team’s attacking moves.

Despite a scare from Felix Correia’s mistake allowing Odsonne Edouard a chance, Lille maintained control with 79% possession in the first half-hour. Correia redeemed himself by doubling the lead after Lens’ defensive error, securing Lille’s victory.

Lens struggled to make an impact throughout the game, with Risser saving another shot from Correia but failing to inspire his team to perform better. Lens’ hopes for the title are dwindling, shifting focus to the Coupe de France semifinals. Meanwhile, Lille’s form continues to soar, aiming for a Champions League spot with key players returning.
