At the Jean-Pinet stadium on Friday, April 3, 5 different primary school classes came together to participate in sports activities. The day was divided into two sports formats: one focused on a biathlon and the other involved rotating workshops with a variety of activities (obstacle course, baseball, tic-tac-toe). Two dozen teams spent time in each format. All teams are made up of children from different classes, “the goal is to mix students as much as possible so they can meet each other,” according to Alice Besse, a departmental delegate of USEP.
Alice highlights that from March to June, she intervenes daily (during school hours) for inter-school sports events, mainly in rural areas and especially in the western part of the department. Supported by USEP (Sports Union of First Degree Teaching), teachers and an educational advisor, this day brought joy to children from Cabrières, Salasc, and Clermont-l’Hérault (Jules Vernes and Laure Moulin schools). All participating classes are affiliated with USEP, thanks to the initiative of teachers who are actively involved in organizing these meetings.
Combining physical activity with skills:
Crystèle Pouget, an educational advisor from the Lodève district, testified to the benefits of these actions for children. All these activities allow children to meet and “work on their psychosocial skills” such as respect for others and rules. In addition, these days allow students and teachers to discover new sports practices with the support of USEP, practices that can be continued independently in their schools. The sports workshops also work on developing daily physical activities (APQ) that aim to combine physical activity with skills like mathematics or French.
