The Reds will be without their goalkeeper Alisson for several weeks, as Arne Slot announced on Friday.

A very bad news for Liverpool, but also some good news. As announced by Arne Slot on Friday in a press conference, the Reds will have to do without Alisson Becker for the two matches against Paris Saint-Germain (April 8 and 14) in the Champions League quarter-finals. The 33-year-old Brazilian international goalkeeper is suffering from muscle problems. “His absence will be prolonged. We hope for his return to form towards the end of the season,” Liverpool’s coach clarified on Friday, on the eve of the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City on Saturday.

For the upcoming clash, coach Slot will reportedly be able to rely on Jérémie Frimpong. “He seems to be doing well. He trained normally with us yesterday (Thursday) and will train with us again today (Friday),” the Dutch coach said, also pleased to have the return of Alexander Isak. “It would certainly be too early to hope to see him starting. He trained with us yesterday for the first time and today for the second time after exactly 101 days of absence. We will make sure to manage his playing time progressively and appropriately, but it’s already great to see him back in training. It would be even better if he were available for the matches, that’s for sure,” he explained. As for Mohamed Salah, there are no concerns: “He is available for tomorrow’s match.” And therefore also for the match in Paris next Wednesday at the Parc des Princes.

Unmissable at the Park last year

As Liverpool’s last line of defense since 2018, Alisson Becker has guarded the Reds’ goal 332 times. He notably contributed to the Champions League victory in 2019. Last year, he had an extraordinary performance at the Parc des Princes, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. Thanks to his feats, and Harvey Elliott’s late goal, Arne Slot’s players won 1-0 in Paris. However, PSG qualified for the quarter-finals in the return leg (1-0 victory after extra time and 4-1 on penalties) before winning the title in the Champions League.
