Maritima Radio gives a voice to the actors who are making a difference in our community in the “C’est mon club” section. Today, the spotlight is on a major solidarity and sporting event: the Handi’Move Day in Istres. On Wednesday, April 1, the sports complex “Le Podium” will host a unique experience where both able-bodied and disabled individuals push their limits together. Arnaud Gébleux, director of the Municipal Sports Office (OMS), presents the program.

Istres, where sports knows no barriers. For its new edition, the Handi’Move Day in Istres stands out as more than just a simple awareness day. “It’s almost like a sports festival for sports and disabilities,” enthuses Arnaud Gébleux on Maritima. The goal? To break taboos and show that sports is a universal playing field.

More than 20 disciplines to discover for free
The Podium complex will come alive with the participation of 15 local clubs for the occasion. A variety of disciplines will be available to try, from the most traditional to the most unusual:

  • Team sports: basketball, handball, volleyball, and even walking football.
  • Precision and combat: archery, laser shooting, boxing, and adapted judo.
  • Thrills: rowing, tandem mountain biking, and equitherapy.
  • Paralympic sports: Boccia (a form of precision petanque) and cécifoot (football for visually impaired).

“Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes”: an immersive experience
The strength of the Handi’Move Day lies in its concept: everyone, whether able-bodied or disabled, is invited to practice activities in an “adapted” mode. “We will have everyone with disabilities practicing. The goal is to inform and sensitize the general public. By adapting the activity, anyone can participate regardless of their status, able-bodied or disabled. In Istres, we are fortunate to have facilities that accommodate all audiences,” emphasizes Arnaud Gébleux.

Easy access to sports all year round
Beyond this event, the OMS in Istres facilitates long-term sports engagement. Arnaud Gébleux points out that a unique system simplifies the lives of families: “With a single registration to OMS, you have access to all activities throughout the year.”
