Gims, a year 2025 in the seventh Heaven
The singer is in custody as part of a money laundering case.
Arrested on Wednesday, the singer saw his custody extended on Thursday. He is implicated in a money laundering case.
The detention in France of rapper and singer Gims, interrogated since Wednesday by the police as part of a suspected money laundering case, was extended on Thursday, we learned from the national anti-organized crime prosecutor’s office.
The 39-year-old Congolese artist was apprehended on Wednesday by customs, as he got off the plane, upon his arrival at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, in the Paris region.
Gims, whose real name is Gandhi Djuna, has been questioned in the framework of a judicial request by investigating magistrates, looking into an alleged organized money laundering network.
The Pnaco, monitoring the investigation, was created earlier this year to consolidate the most complex cases of organized crime in Paris.
According to Africa Intelligence, which revealed this detention, this international money laundering network could involve “a myriad of companies specially established in different countries to evade French VAT and other taxes, facilitate the issuance of false invoices, launder funds from illegal activities, and conceal their origin.”
“Five former drug traffickers from the Paris region turned to financial crime” have already been “implicated” in this case, the site adds. This specialized media asserts that investigators are particularly interested in a large luxury real estate project promoted by Gims in Marrakech (Morocco), one of the cities where he resides.
Named Sunset Village Private Residences, this ongoing project of 118 luxury villas, with sports fields, spa, sauna, and hammam, surrounding a 3,000 m2 lagoon, was launched with great fanfare in 2025 in the presence of the king of French-speaking music.
Contacted by AFP, the lawyer of the top-selling artist of 2025 in France, Me David-Olivier Kaminski, declined to comment.
Topping all the rankings on platforms, an artist appreciated by the majority, and less divisive than others, he was crowned best male artist at the 40th Victoires de la Musique in 2025. A highly popular stage performer, he is engaged in a long tour of dozens of dates, which will take him to Marseille (south) on June 19, 2027. (ats/afp)
