The 6th season of Big Brother Canada concludes on Sunday. Ahead of the grand finale, content producer David Gauthier revealed seven production secrets never before disclosed about the popular reality show!
1. Finding houseguests is a 365-day process Searching for the houseguests who will inhabit the Big Brother house is an important and lengthy process for the Big Brother team. “We approach people all year round,” said David Gauthier. Even though the seventh season has yet to be confirmed, production has already started thinking about the next stars. It’s a real celebration every time a participant accepts the invitation, as David mentioned, “Every time we book a new houseguest, we pop champagne,” he said jokingly. If the show returns next year, he would like to convince the comedian Brigitte Lafleur to do a full season. He confessed to loving her performance in the last season of Noovo Réveillon.
2. Mona, the trickiest houseguest to catch Viewers were surprised to see Mona from Grenoble back in the game! At the beginning of the season, many thought she was a replacement choice. However, her presence on the show was well-planned. David mentioned that it took a lot of work to ensure her participation, as she had many scheduled performances. According to him, Mona was the most challenging houseguest of this sixth season.
3. Why the keys? How do they come up with so many twists and challenges? David Gauthier is fortunate to work with his partner Mathieu Ouellet to come up with a different story every year. Together, they ask various questions before coming up with a few ideas. This season, the theme of keys came to mind first. Then the concept grew. “It takes shape slowly, we connect the pieces together, and we develop the season’s twists throughout the year; they are insights,” he added.
4. Twists are planned before filming starts As Big Brother Canada is a game that requires many technical elements, everything is planned from the start. David Gauthier mentioned that the producer knew from the beginning that there was a hotel room to reserve when Felix obtained redemption. He emphasized that these are not things that can be put together quickly, and they are elements established from the beginning.

7. Challenges must be tested by the production Big Brother Canada has complete warehouses full of sets and game modules. Although some challenges return each season, the challenge team introduces new ones in each edition. Before a challenge can take place, the entire production team tests it! They calculate how long the challenge takes. Sometimes, production performs better than the houseguests, while other times it’s the opposite! Safety is also considered when creating challenges.
