Jesse Metcalfe opens up about his dismissal from Desperate Housewives

The actor who played John, Jesse Metcalfe, opened up about his departure from the iconic series.

After recently revealing his departure from Desperate Housewives, the iconic series from the early 2000s, Jesse Metcalfe disclosed which actresses from the cast he still connects with today.

You may not remember his name like that, but his role certainly left a mark in 2004, during the launch of the cult series on the ABC channel: Jesse Metcalfe played John Rowland, the charming gardener and young lover of Gabrielle Solis, played by Eva Longoria at the time.

Appearing on the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat last week, the now 47-year-old actor did not hold back in sharing anecdotes about the show that marked television in the early 2000s.

Don’t see it as a behavioral problem or a dispute with the show’s creator. “After the first season, they weren’t sure where to take my story anymore,” he explained. “Our creator, Marc Cherry, said: ‘It’s not Desperate House Gardeners, it’s Desperate Housewives, so unfortunately, you won’t be a regular character on the show anymore.'”

Fortunately for him, at the time, the 26-year-old quickly landed on his feet. Not only because his portrayal of a teenage gardener quickly propelled the actor to teen idol status and earned him three Teen Choice Award nominations in 2005, but also because it opened doors for him.

“I was offered the lead role in John Tucker Must Die by 20th Century Fox, so I thought: Great, no problem. I’m going to become a movie star. I was riding the wave, you know, because this show really changed me, everything was happening for me and I was just enjoying it.”

Even after being dismissed from the series, the actor was called back as a recurring guest star in several of the following seasons. No hard feelings, as they say.

A few days later, on March 20, during an event in Los Angeles, Jesse Metcalfe openly spoke with Page Six about his Desperate Housewives years, revealing in particular which actresses he was still in contact with. Starting with the one who played his mistress, Eva Longoria.

“I still talk to Eva from time to time,” confirmed the actor. Before adding: “I love Marcia Cross. I saw her in a Broadway production in New York a few years ago.”

The actress who played Bree Van de Kamp in the early 2000s series was “really touched” that he came to support her. “I’ve always been a big fan of hers, especially as an actress,” he added. “I find her incredibly talented.”

As for Felicity Huffman, who played Lynette Scavo, the actor is delighted to see her “working a lot again, as she has incredible talent.” Remember, Felicity Huffman stayed away from the studios for a long time after it was revealed that she had paid $15,000 to improve her daughter’s exam scores and help her get into university.

After serving nearly two weeks in prison and paying a hefty fine of $30,000, the actress is gradually making appearances on shows again. Nothing seemed to shock Jesse Metcalfe too much, apparently:
