On Friday, March 27, 2026 at 8:30 pm, the Palais des Congrès Cap d’Agde Méditerranée will host “La Veuve rusée,” a comedy by Carlo Goldoni revisited in an elegant and contemporary setting. Lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes and suitable for ages 12 and up, the show promises a lively and cheerful immersion in the games of love and power.
On stage, a prestigious cast includes Caterina Murino, Sarah Biasini, Vincent Deniard, Vincent Desagnat, Thierry Harcourt, Tom Leeb, and Pierre Rochefort, with the exceptional vocal participation of Jean Reno. The adaptation and staging are signed by Giancarlo Marinelli, assisted by Aline Gaillot, with a translation by Valerio Zaina.
The plot takes us to Venice, where Rosaura, a rich and attractive widow, is courted by four suitors from different backgrounds: an Englishman, a Frenchman, a Spaniard, and an Italian. All rely on the mischievous Arlequin to try to win her heart. Indecisive, Rosaura devises a stratagem, with the help of her faithful lady-in-waiting Marionnette, to repel her suitors. But in Venice, love always holds surprises.
Enhanced with scenography by Fabiana Di Marco, costumes from the Venetian workshop of Stefano Nicolao, and lighting by Didier Brun, the play skillfully blends humor, romance, and reflection on female freedom. Through misunderstandings, tricks, and matters of the heart, “La Veuve rusée” establishes itself as a work that is both entertaining and committed, where a woman intends to remain mistress of her destiny.
Produced by Arts Live Entertainment and Fimalac Culture, in collaboration with several European theatrical institutions, this adaptation confirms Goldoni’s timeless modernity and offers the audience an evening filled with laughter and elegance.
