In appearance, this evening has all the hallmarks of a Hollywood dream come true. Celebrities, haute couture, photographers… It is the most sought-after annual event by celebrities, for its combination of glamour and talent of the seventh art.
For Mark Guidicci, the new global editorial director of “Vanity Fair”, the challenge was immense. In office since June 2025, he was tasked with organizing the traditional Oscars after-party on March 15. The verdict came the day after this major event. While on the other side of the Atlantic the evening seemed as flamboyant and desirable as in previous years, the Hollywood scene did not agree: a reduced guest list in favor of “only the biggest stars”, an unusual event venue, unwanted presence of influencers… And blinding white lights.
Apparently, in the rush to change venues to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), someone forgot to bring the dimmers. A blow for the stars, who showed up to the event after hours or even days of preparation, only to not be photographed in their best light.
“It was like being photographed in very high definition. We could see all the extra pounds and wrinkles that were previously hidden. Nobody wants to be photographed like that!” a source from “Vanity Fair” magazine told “Hollywood Reporter”.
