The Oscars are supposed to be a very glamorous event, where actors and other celebrities parade on the red carpet in beautiful outfits. However, behind the scenes of this cinema-centered evening seems far from this perfect image.
The proof: a photo published after the ceremony. It was taken by Matt Neglia, editor-in-chief of Newt Best Picture, who stayed a little longer in the theater after the ceremony ended and the celebrities left. In the photo, shared on X, the Dolby Theatre is filled with trash. On the floor, in front of the seats, you can see water bottles, wrappers, and the meal boxes of the guests.
“The face when you didn’t accept it”: Leonardo DiCaprio buzzes once again at the Oscars
Published on Monday morning, the photo quickly went viral and sparked reactions. Internet users described celebrities as “hypocritical snobs.” “The rich once again leave their trash to the poor,” reads on X, as reported by Demotivateur. Or, “So, people really throw their trash everywhere at the Oscars? These celebrities are seriously lacking in education” and “Celebrities and actors/actresses think they are too good to clean up their garbage. What a surprise!”
This reality is even more in contrast with the beautiful speeches on ecology made by some celebrities. “It shows how most of these speeches are purely theatrical,” points out one internet user. However, according to some, the place seen in the photo is actually reserved for the families of the nominees. “I’m absolutely not defending this, but isn’t this a photo of the upper stands where families, friends, and guests sit? Not the nominees themselves?” questions an internet user.
American actor Sean Penn, winner of an Oscar on Sunday, is in Kiev and is preparing to go “to the front”
Despite everything, we can observe the same disheartening scene where the stars settle, at the bottom right of the photo. But there might be a good reason for this. “In many places, we are asked to leave our trash in place so that a team can come clean it up,” explains a user.
