The 98th Oscars came to a close last night in Los Angeles. Among the top contenders were Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” (which set a record with 16 nominations), Chloe Zhao’s beautiful “Hamnet,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” Guillermo Del Toro’s “Marty Supreme,” and Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value.” Who took home the most trophies?
In a major win, Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” dominated the evening, winning Best Film and Best Director (as well as Best Ensemble, Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, and Best Adapted Screenplay). The heavily nominated “Sinners” earned Michael B. Jordan the Best Actor Oscar (along with Best Original Screenplay and Music), while Jessie Buckley snagged Best Actress for “Hamnet.” “Frankenstein” received multiple technical Oscars (makeup, costumes, sets), “Avatar 3” scooped up the Special Effects award, and Danish film “Sentimental Value” won Best Foreign Film. Notably, “Kpop Demon Hunters” won Best Animated Film.
