Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Vartan experienced a passionate romance both on stage and in private. After a secret wedding on April 12, 1965, the couple welcomed a son named David on August 14, 1966. Following in the footsteps of his musical parents, David Hallyday decided to pursue an artistic career. During an interview on the show Quotidien, the musician opened up about his relationship with his mother, saying, “I don’t know about you, but I get nervous with my mom. I feel like I’m 15 and a half again. It’s not that she impresses me, it’s just a bit awkward to be public about it, which is still a bit special,” shared Laura Smet’s brother.
Last August 14, on his 59th birthday, the father of Cameron Smet received numerous messages from loved ones, including a heartfelt message from his mother, Sylvie Vartan, posted on her Instagram account. She shared several photos of her son and herself taken at different times in their lives along with a message that read, “On this blessed day when you were born, the sun entered my life. I am so lucky to have a son like you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! My love!!” The message deeply moved the main recipient.
On Friday, April 10, David Hallyday was performing on stage at the Zenith in Paris as part of his tour, “Requiem pour un fou.” The singer was visited by his mother, Sylvie Vartan. Darina Scotti’s mother shared a photo of her reunion with the rocker on her Instagram account for a special reason: the singer had just received a gold record for his album “Requiem pour un fou,” released in June 2024, where he revisits the iconic songs of his late father, Johnny Hallyday.
According to M Radio, the album has sold over 50,000 copies in six months. The family matriarch expressed pride and emotion at sharing this immense success with David Hallyday. In response, the brother of Laura Smet, who joined the cast of “The White Lotus,” commented with heart emojis.
French audiences recognize David Hallyday for his singing talent, but he is also known in the world of cinema. In 1987, he played the lead role in “He’s my girl,” a film by Tony Scotti, the husband of Sylvie Vartan. However, his mother never wanted him to become an actor, just like his half-sister. Despite the potential to star in major Hollywood productions, Sylvie Vartan revealed that she did not want her son to be in “Star Wars” during an interview on the show C & Vous. This missed opportunity to work with Steven Spielberg was not a traumatic experience for David Hallyday.
