However, these young people, mostly non-drivers, face problems getting around. This is the case for Jade, 18 years old, on a youth commitment contract with the local mission. “I live on the outskirts of Montmoreau, it takes a 30-minute drive to get here, and since I don’t have a license, I have to manage,” she explains. So going to the cinema at night, especially during events, is like an obstacle course. “This perfectly illustrates the situation in rural areas, where bus schedules do not match cinema session times,” deplores the site director. This contributes to the absence of young people in theaters, not to mention the clear impact of streaming platforms.
Nevertheless, this does not discourage these budding film enthusiasts who gather twice a month to discuss and decide on the theme of the monthly event they organize.
Collaboration with Bikers against Harassment Coming Up
“The next date to remember is March 24,” informs Julie, 23 years old, one of the senior Young Ambassadors. This event will be organized in partnership with the Charente branch of Bikers against Harassment (BCH). The film “TKT” will be screened at the Club cinema at 7:45 pm, followed by a debate with the audience and the bikers’ association on harassment in schools and daily life. “This is a topic that can concern everyone, especially young people,” explain the teenagers. For the occasion, Julie has created a poster for the film, which she has shared on the Young Ambassadors’ Instagram account.
Communication-wise, the team is on point. Before each event, Maurine, Pauline, and Zoé, the three youngest members of the group, put up posters in their Barbezieux high school. “It is through these actions that we become known and inspire people to discover good little films,” emphasize the enthusiastic teenagers.
The Young Ambassadors are tirelessly working on their next event, scheduled for April 28. “This time, we want to do something more joyful,” announces Zoé, with a smile on her face.
