Offering a sky of azure blue, a beautiful lake, and fields dotted with daffodils, the tourism office of Gérardmer did not skimp on the scenery this Tuesday on the occasion of the opening of the 28th edition of the Cinema Meetings. Exhibitors and journalists, sometimes coming from the west of France or even from the south, thus rediscovered the Pearl of the Vosges and its traditional spring film event.

In front of the first spectators gathered at the Casino cinema, Denis Blum, the event’s programmer co-organized with the association Image’Est, kicked off this edition. With enthusiasm and confidence, he launched a dense program of previews that will continue until Friday morning. At the entrance, film enthusiasts were also there, eager to discover the first films.

Three screenings marked this first day, before a particularly busy Wednesday. Four films will be on the bill, accompanied by three teams. Among the highly anticipated highlights: the presence of Japanese director Ryota Nakano for “My Big Brother and Me,” as well as Léo Grandperret and Manu Payet for “Become Awesome.”

A Cartography of Memories

Another intense moment, this Wednesday at 9:30 am with the preview of the documentary “The Blue Line,” in the presence of the director Marie Dumora. Filmed in Natzwiller, near the former Struthof camp, the film explores a still vivid memory. “Even today, men and the mountain bear the traces of these wounds,” she confides, evoking “a humanity where, in every house, lies a story.”

Through a sensitive exploration of landscapes and testimonies, the filmmaker offers a true mapping of memories, scrutinizing every slope of the mountain. A strong start for Meetings that promise, once again, to be rich in emotions and discoveries.
