Arthur Schoonderwoerd, director of the Cristofori ensemble since 1995 and Musiques en perspectives, expertly and creatively organizes concerts every year for an audience seeking authenticity. Between teaching at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance (CNSMD) in Lyon and his renowned performances throughout Europe, this fortepiano specialist is preparing for the upcoming La Via Musica classical music festival, along with three days dedicated to more intimate works this month.
From April 17 to 19, he and some of the musicians who regularly follow him will offer a mini-festival for chamber music enthusiasts, titled “Treasures of Chamber Music”. They will perform at the recently restored Music Pavilion in the sacred Center of Besançon. “This place is exceptional,” affirms the maestro. “It can only accommodate about forty spectators. They will enjoy a sonic and aesthetic experience that they will not find anywhere else, since we only play on period instruments.”
An Unprecedented Experience
In a limited space, those who have purchased tickets will discover works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. “Those who have previously enjoyed them on recordings or in large halls will live a different, unique, rare, and privileged experience,” continues Arthur Schoonderwoerd. “The performers create a closeness with the listeners. Everyone then feels emotions they want to share. That’s why, as an organizer, I always propose a friendly moment with a drink after concerts of this nature.”
Sonatas, caprices, variations, and fantasies by each of the aforementioned composers will be played on pianoforte and clavichord from the 18th century.
