Gérard Jugnot Shines in French Comedies
Gérard Jugnot continues to shine in French comedies. Since April 1st, he has been starring in “Mauvaise Pioche”, a feature film that he himself wrote and directed. The film also stars Thierry Lhermitte and Philippe Lacheau. Released in theaters on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, it tells the story of Serge Martin, who is mistakenly arrested and mistaken for the most wanted man in France, in a plot that echoes the Dupont de Ligonnès case, wanted since the massacre of his family in 2011. The 74-year-old actor shared with Diverto about “Mauvaise Pioche”: “I tell stories of ordinary characters confronted with extraordinary things that fall quite low, trying to give a little hope.” He added: “What is interesting is to push the envelope a bit, without caricaturing. Comedy only exists because there is a somewhat sarcastic view of things. But I don’t make political films, we found a formula: I make ‘grinning sociology’. “Mauvaise Pioche” seeks to be a family comedy.
“She Was a Beautiful Woman”, Gérard Jugnot Remembers His First Love
It is alongside big names in French comedy that Gérard Jugnot presents his new production. In the midst of promotional frenzy, he visits editorial offices and gives interviews. These interviews lead to confidences, as seen on the Rires & Chansons set, on April 1st.
The Splendid actor reminisced about his first big love. An unconventional love at first sight. “It was my friend’s mother. She was a beautiful woman, she was a journalist. I must have been fifteen, and I wrote her a letter that I posted,” he recounted to Cédric Cizaire. He recalls with amusement: “Then I tried to break down the door to get it back. She received it, and then we met. She told me it was cute. She was charming.” Gérard Jugnot fondly remembers this encounter. “She scolded me a bit, but it was nice. She was very beautiful, but a little older.” So an impossible love that turned into friendship.
Gérard Jugnot Married to Patricia Campi
Gérard Jugnot has since moved on from this heartbreak. Father of three children, he is now in a relationship with Patricia Campi, a woman thirty years his junior. Together, they have been living a beautiful love story since 2015.
To formalize their romance, it was on June 25, 2016 that they said “yes” during a ceremony on the island of Porquerolles. Speaking to our colleagues at Télé-Loisirs, he talked about their age difference that is often questioned. “It’s mostly she who doesn’t care! We’ve been together for over ten years, we are very happy. She’s not fifteen either.”
