After several years away from the music scene, which her fans have not failed to remind her of, Rihanna has confirmed that she is back in the recording studio. On Instagram, Friday, February 27, 2026, the singer shared images of herself in action, leaving no room for doubt.
“Je dois aller au studio ensuite, puis confectionner un costume pour Mardi Gras pour mon fils après le studio. C’est la journée la plus longue de ma vie,” she declared.
The video then reveals images of Rihanna, seated in the studio, writing in a notebook with her team for several hours during the night. At dawn, she then went home to apply rhinestones on her son’s jeans for his costume.
Rihanna’s presence in a recording studio is considered an event for the singer’s fans, as she had not released an album since “Anti” in 2016. Only the songs “Lift Me Up” released in 2022 for the movie “Black Panther 2”, and “Friends of Mine” for the movie “The Smurfs” in 2025 have been released.
The star has also largely stayed away from the public eye and focused on her private life. In a relationship with rapper ASAP Rocky since 2020, Rihanna has given birth to three children: Rza Athelston in 2022, Riot Rose in 2023, and Rocki Irish in 2025. She had gradually returned to the red carpet at the end of 2025.
These years away from the spotlight made many fans believe that she might never return to the stage or release a ninth album. But Rihanna had already expressed her views on the subject and had emphasized taking her time. In 2024, speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said, “I don’t want to neglect the songs I have. I want to take what I have and listen to it with fresh ears, with my new perspective, and see what is relevant and what I still like.”
