The meeting reviewed the results of implementing tasks related to scientific and technological development, innovation, digital transformation, and Project 06, as well as administrative reform in the past period; and proposed key tasks for the future.
Specifically, the focus will be on reviewing the development of fundamental and strategic technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G technology, semiconductor chips, drones, database construction and connectivity, cloud computing, etc., in accordance with the directives of Secretary General To Lam during the first meeting of the central steering committee on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in 2026.
The meeting noted that under the government and Prime Minister’s leadership and management, ministries and sectors decisively and synchronously implemented tasks related to the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and that Project 06 continued to be strongly and extensively implemented, extending to almost all sectors, domains, and aspects of life.
The development of strategic technologies and the scientific and technological ecosystem has seen many positive developments. These technologies are constantly reviewed and improved. Highlights include the inauguration of the Vietnamese Space Center and the groundbreaking of the country’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant. Some companies now master up to 65% of key technologies in areas like AI cameras, 5G, and drones.
Digital infrastructure has benefited from increased investments and rapid development in terms of capacity, technology, and quality, with a 5G network coverage reaching 91.9% of the population and more than 22.4 million subscribers; numerous large data centers have been commissioned and inaugurated; over 4,200 GPU processors have been invested to support artificial intelligence; and many ministries, sectors, and local authorities are actively enriching data for national and specialized databases.
The digital economy continues its rapid and sustained development. In the first quarter of 2026, the number of digital technology businesses significantly increased, with an additional 1,394 enterprises; digital product exports are expected to exceed $45 billion, a 32.2% increase from the same period last year.
