The first theme was dedicated to the role of women in scientific fields under the title “But where are the girls?”. The goal was to understand, testify, and act so that girls have their rightful place in the sciences.
On this occasion, the organization had invited two speakers who are members of the Women and Science association, which works to promote equality between women and men, especially in scientific careers. They address a wide audience ranging from the educational world to scientific institutions, including companies, women’s networks, and generally, the general public.
Isabelle Pianet, an engineer at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) Archéosciences in Bordeaux, is very committed to gender diversity in the sciences. Marie-Blanche Mauhourat is a physics and chemistry teacher in secondary and preparatory classes, general inspector of academia and a former student of Claudine Hermann, co-founder of Women and Science.
The speakers tried to raise awareness of these inequalities, starting with the students of the Aliénor d’Aquitaine College on Thursday, April 2. The questions and concerns of young people about their academic, university, and professional future were at the heart of the session.
