The strategic partnership between Vietnam and Brazil continues to develop positively and comprehensively in many areas. This statement was made by the Vietnamese ambassador to Brazil, Bui Van Nghi, during a recent meeting in Brasilia with the president of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Professor Dr. Olival Freire Junior.
Ambassador Bui Van Nghi declared that the volume of trade exchanges between Vietnam and Brazil is expected to reach 7.76 billion US dollars in 2025 and aims for 15 billion US dollars by 2030. Brazil is currently Vietnam’s main trading partner in Latin America, while Vietnam plays a crucial role in helping Brazil access the markets of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific region.
Ambassador Bui Van Nghi emphasized that Vietnam is accelerating the implementation of major policies in scientific, technological, and innovative development, considering these elements as essential drivers of sustainable growth. He also expressed his willingness to enhance cooperation with Brazil in areas of excellence such as renewable energies, environmental technologies, and the development of key technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), quantum technologies, and the semiconductor industry.
Ambassador Bui Van Nghi proposed to promote links between CNPq and key research institutes in Vietnam, such as the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences, and major universities like Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University.
President Olival Freire highlighted the enormous potential for collaboration between research institutes, universities, and businesses in both countries. He encouraged Vietnam to expand its cooperation with Brazilian companies in research, technology, and innovation. Brazil, in particular, values cooperation prospects in areas such as high-tech agriculture, ethanol production (biofuel from sugarcane), electronics, and the semiconductor industry.
Mr. Olival Freire also stated that CNPq is ready to send delegations of scientific and technological experts to work in Vietnam to promote more substantial and effective cooperation. Also present at the meeting were Ms. Dalila Andrade de Oliveira, Director of Cooperation, External Relations, and Innovation at CNPq, and Mr. Pedro Oliveira, Secretary General of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association.
