The program includes a series of cultural activities, starting with a photo exhibition titled “Visual Heritage: The Imperial Examination at the End of the 19th Century,” featuring photographs documenting the 1897 imperial examination in Nam Dinh, taken by French photographer Firmin-André Salles. Precious documents are on display at the academic space of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities of the National University of Vietnam in Hanoi from April 8 to 18.

Through photographic documents, the exhibition not only allows for admiring photographic works but also provides insight into photographic techniques while exploring the educational and examination system in Vietnam. It serves as a valuable source of information, reflecting the history and culture of Vietnam linked to the current cultural and historical document investigation, collection, and research program abroad directed by the school.

As part of this program, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities welcomed Mr. Olivier Brochet, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the French Republic in Vietnam, who attended the event and delivered a lecture to a wide audience of professors, staff members, students, and interns of the university. During this exchange, the ambassador clarified France’s role and influence in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the development of a global strategic partnership between Vietnam and France in political, diplomatic, economic, scientific, technological, and cultural domains.

The ambassador also mentioned several areas of future cooperation, including continued strengthening of bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy, maritime affairs, artificial intelligence, and sustainable food security. Additionally, France encourages Vietnamese students to pursue their studies and research, contributing to the development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Apart from bilateral relations, both parties aim to enhance ties between Vietnam and the European Union and the ASEAN region, expanding cooperation in this new context. The French Embassy in Vietnam, in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, organized a ceremony to award the Order of Academic Palms to two distinguished university scientists: Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, the university’s rector, and Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong, the principal researcher at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

In his remarks, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan expressed that receiving the Order of Academic Palms from the French government was a great honor in his scientific career. He highlighted the constant efforts and dedication of previous generations that allowed today’s scientists to develop and contribute. The Order of Academic Palms is one of the oldest and most prestigious distinctions in French education, rewarding individuals who have made exceptional contributions to education, science, and culture. Established in 1808, it recognizes the commitment of scientists to international academic activities, including the development of collaborative research programs, training, and university exchanges with French partners.
