The meeting MeM by CGEM at GITEX 2026 reflects the strategic role of the diaspora in the Moroccan economy and digital sector.
On the sidelines of GITEX Africa 2026, MeM by CGEM, the 13th region of the General Confederation of Moroccan Businesses (CGEM) dedicated to Moroccan entrepreneurs and high potentials around the world, held its 4th annual meeting focusing on Moroccan Talents Worldwide.
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Investment, Convergence, and Policy Evaluation and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), this edition highlighted the key role of the diaspora in the economic and technological development of the Kingdom. The event brought together high-level institutional and economic actors with the aim of fostering diaspora expertise and strengthening synergies with the national ecosystem, in line with the High Solicitude of His Majesty King Mohammed VI towards Moroccans Worldwide.
The diaspora, driver of economic transformation
During the opening, Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, explained that Moroccans around the world represent a unique wealth, carrying skills, networks, and a strong willingness to contribute to the Kingdom’s development. “Supporting the diaspora is a priority to transform investment intentions into concrete, fast, and secure projects,” he emphasized. To achieve this, dedicated measures have been deployed through Regional Investment Centers and the reinforced actions of AMDIE, while structural reforms aim to sustainably improve the business climate.
On his part, Chakib Alj, President of CGEM, highlighted the role of MeM by CGEM in mobilizing and showcasing Moroccan talents internationally. He emphasized the importance of a performing and competitive national technological ecosystem, fully open to the world, where the diaspora serves as a lever for innovation, skills transfer, and growth acceleration. “In a context marked by transformations induced by artificial intelligence, it is essential to foster expertise, in Morocco as well as internationally, to position the Kingdom in the digital economy of tomorrow,” he added.
AMDIE reiterated its commitment to the diaspora, by regularly organizing dedicated meetings for Moroccans Worldwide to facilitate their investment procedures and encourage their involvement in national economic dynamics. The Agency thus works to create concrete bridges between diaspora talents and investment opportunities in Morocco, with a focus on sustainable impact.
The meeting included an interactive session moderated by Karim Amor, President of MeM by CGEM, dedicated to identifying and overcoming obstacles encountered by diaspora investors. Discussions focused on improving the business climate, enhancing support for startups, and adjusting financing mechanisms. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of financing and the academic ecosystem in the emergence of highly potential innovative projects.
The session also paved the way for diaspora entrepreneurs through dedicated mechanisms, while giving a central place to the “Ladies MeM” initiatives, true showcases of female leadership on a global scale.
