The Sion-Vaudémont site begins its season with a complex combining historical heritage and cutting-edge scientific mediation. This reopening marks the shift to a cross-border dimension, integrating European projects like INTERREG to address global climate challenges.
An immersive experience to international standards The new permanent route unfolds 600 m² of museography spread across three thematic rooms: from geology to the sensitive perception of the territory. Complemented by the archaeology exhibition “Our Footprints”, created with INRAP, the site offers a playful immersion into 7,000 years of human history. Innovation also lies in the reception: the new space “The Farm” can now accommodate 250 people for seminars, while the accommodation capacity reaches 80 beds, ideal for educational tourism. This upgrade in structural quality is supported by a team of 19 dedicated staff members to animate this nationally recognized center for scientific culture.
A development engine for the southern Lorraine region The challenge is also to improve the accessibility of this Lorraine gem. In collaboration with the Region, the Department is exploring alternatives to cars, taking advantage of the reopening of the Nancy-Mirecourt railway line. Erwin Dreyer, from the Scientific Council, emphasizes the importance of this mobilization: the City must allow everyone to influence the evolution of rural and urban landscapes. With 150 scheduled events and over 150 partnerships (associations, universities, businesses), the hill of Sion emerges as a living laboratory for green economy, where the preservation of biodiversity becomes a lever for sustainable territorial attractiveness.
Between culture, science, and nature, the City of Landscapes now asserts itself as a showcase of French environmental innovation on a European scale.
