The One Health approach, which connects human, animal, and ecosystem health, is gaining importance in managing global health crises. The Veterinary School of Lyon has developed the One Health master’s program to train professionals in addressing the intersection of human, animal, and environmental challenges.

Julien Ferrero, a student at Vet Agro Sup in Lyon, is enrolled in the International One Health Master’s program to learn about managing population health in a multidisciplinary way. The program aims to prevent or control public health crises.

The One Health Summit in Lyon from April 5-7, 2026, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, will bring together international delegations, organizations, scientists, and public decision-makers to address global health challenges.

Nader Elkhouly, an Egyptian veterinary student, emphasizes the importance of using the One Health approach to eradicate animal diseases, especially those that can be transmitted to humans like brucellosis. This bacterial disease primarily affects livestock and can be transmitted through unpasteurized dairy products.

Thibaud Porphyre, a master’s program co-organizer, highlights the need for students to collaborate with individuals from diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and cultures to tackle health challenges effectively.

The master’s program at Vet Agro Sup meets the demand from international organizations like WHO, OIE, FAO, and UNEP. Graduates are prepared for careers as coordinators in these global health organizations.
