The future TGV InOui is designed to produce, consume, and enhance real-time data. On March 31st and April 1st, 70 people, including SNCF data experts and engineering students from the Institute of Internet and Multimedia (IIM) at Vinci Digital School, gathered for a datathon to envision, using data and artificial intelligence, the innovations that will enrich the future TGV INOUI.

Challenges on operational and energy performance and passenger experience:

Over two days, participants worked on specific challenges related to operational and energy performance as well as passenger experience. By utilizing data from the future TGV INOUI and combining it with peripheral data such as meteorological data, network infrastructure data, etc., the 70 participants divided into 12 teams explored the potential of this new train. One application was to optimize the maintenance of the trains to improve equipment availability. The winning team prototyped a data analysis module, including an AI prediction model, to provide real-time status of certain train components and predict their evolution for future journeys.

Monitoring water consumption in the toilets:

The “Proof Of Concept” centered on monitoring the clean water consumption in the toilets, achieving 97% accuracy in water consumed per journey. This proposed solution could be integrated into existing applications, simplifying maintenance processes. Another solution focused on self-checking for passengers to independently validate their ticket validity, ensuring a seamless travel experience.

Evaluation of projects on their realistic implementation:

The projects presented were evaluated based on criteria such as originality, operational feasibility, relevance of data presented, quality of presentation, and potential for implementation in the railway market. The event aims to promote innovation and SNCF’s data expertise, leveraging the data revolution offered by the future TGV INOUI to provide a reliable and comfortable travel experience.

Future TGV designed for real-time data production:

The future TGV INOUI is designed to produce, consume, and leverage real-time data, with over 25,000 variables analyzed every 100 milliseconds on its internal network before being transmitted to SNCF Voyageurs’ information systems. This abundance of data transforms each journey into an opportunity for continuous optimization, marking a significant advancement in the train-data relationship. The train’s life cycle must be characterized by constant improvements driven by the intelligent use of its data.
