Mary Roach, a popular science writer with a funny bone, will talk in Lawrence about her new book on weird science and human anatomy, as part of a public library reading series.
Roach’s talk is free and open to the public with no registration required. Doors for the event will open at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23, and the program will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St.
Roach will sign her titles following the talk.
“Replaceable You: Adventures in Human Anatomy,” Roach’s latest title, “discusses medical breakthroughs, ethical dilemmas, and the scientists, surgeons, and patients shaping the future of human replacement,” according to a library news release.
The author is coming to Lawrence as part of the public library’s Ross and Marianna Beach reading series, which has been running since 2014.
“The Beach Author program brings some of the greatest living writers to Lawrence, and we’re so excited to continue the tradition with Mary Roach, a ‘New York Times’ Bestselling author who is well known for her ability to explore scientific topics in a fun and humorous way,” library Director Brad Allen said.
Roach’s other titles include “STIFF,” on human cadavers; “GULP,” on the alimentary canal; “BUMP,” on sexual physiology, and more. Many of her books are available through the library.
