At the end of their term in 2033, Frederic Sanchez and Nicolas Lacombe will celebrate 40 years of their political adventure in Nerac. From the first brochures of the Socialist Party to the conquest of the mayor’s office, they look back on this period that shaped their friendship.
Today, Nicolas Lacombe and Frederic Sanchez consider themselves best friends, but it wasn’t always that way. They crossed paths in their high school years but didn’t feel a particular connection. However, in November 1993, at 18 years old, they found themselves at the door of the Socialist Party in Agen and quickly bonded, becoming inseparable.
Their first political act was distributing anti-McDonald’s brochures in Agen, and years later, they were invited to the opening of a McDonald’s restaurant in Nerac, where they met the owner, connecting their past and present.
Throughout their journey, Lacombe and Sanchez reminisce about the 90s, a period that laid the foundation for their political success. They reflect on internal battles within the party and their dedication to winning municipal elections in Nerac.
Their commitment to their political project led them to invest fully in becoming elected officials. Despite some setbacks, their unity and collaboration with other left-wing groups eventually led to their victory in 2008, with Lacombe as mayor and Sanchez as a key supporter.
Their friendship and loyalty have remained steadfast, even when they left the Socialist Party in 2017 due to growing disillusionment with party politics. They now focus on governing Nerac and working on local projects.
The bond between Lacombe and Sanchez, forged in their youth as political activists, continues to thrive as they navigate the challenges of local governance together, with a shared hope for future victories.
