Today, 48.7 million voters, including 358,000 Europeans, are eligible to vote in the municipal elections on March 15 and 22, according to a statement from INSEE.

Out of the 48.7 million voters, 358,000 are citizens of an EU member state residing in France who have registered to vote in the municipal elections.

Portuguese citizens make up the largest group of Europeans registered (115,100), followed by Italians (56,900) and Belgians (54,800).

According to INSEE, 95% of French citizens of voting age are registered, a proportion that has remained stable since 2022.

In New Caledonia’s Noumea, 56 regular polling stations will be consolidated into eight locations for the municipal elections on March 15 and 22 due to damages caused by violence in May 2024. This decision has sparked criticism from several candidates who fear increased abstention in popular neighborhoods.

Former Prime Minister Michel Barnier expressed his hope that the Reconquest candidate for the Paris mayoralty, Sarah Knafo, will encourage her supporters to vote for Rachida Dati in the second round.

Max Guazzini, former president of Stade Francais and a candidate on Rachida Dati’s list for the Paris mayoral race, deactivated his X account after being accused of making racist comments. Guazzini plans to sue for defamation.

Roubaix, the poorest city in France, is currently governed by the right-wing but is also the city where Jean-Luc Melenchon achieved 52% in the last presidential election’s first round, the highest national score. The upcoming municipal elections are expected to determine the future leadership of the city.

Various meetings, rallies, and TV appearances are scheduled for candidates across different cities, as the countdown to the elections continues.
