CASTANET-TOLOSAN – The budget will be on the agenda for the last municipal council of this term. For the sixth time, Simon Viguer, deputy in charge of finances, will present this file, awaiting the next elections.
“I made it a point to improve the financial situation of the municipality compared to what I inherited. I believe I have succeeded thanks to the work provided and the professionalism of the city’s agents. The numbers speak for themselves: indebtedness has been reduced by 60%, there has been no increase in taxes, and investments of 40 million euros have been carried out without incurring new debt. We have also generated significant self-financing, allowing, among other things, for the funding of new facilities such as Castagora, as well as the completion of important works.”
As for the 2026 budget, it is a closing budget that prepares strong ambitions for new facilities for the city. It is credible and solid, with very good indicators. The next team (hopefully ours) will be able to finance modern facilities adapted to the needs of the municipality. In terms of operation, the budget amounts to 24 million euros with a surplus of over 5 million. In investment expenses, there will be 19 million euros including rest to be realized. The team taking over will therefore have a solid budget that fits into the continuity.
The main regret at the end of the term is the division of the left, even though I did my best to unite respecting the diversity of parties. Unfortunately, I did not manage to achieve this with other outgoing elected officials present today on the “Castanet en Action” list.
As for the campaign, I will be a candidate on a left-wing unity list (without EELV or LFI), led by Pascal Chicot, “Castanet en action”, supported by the Region with Carole Delga, the Department with Sébastien Vincini, departmental councilor Bernard Bagnéris, not to mention deputy Jacques Oberti and senator Emmanuelle Poumirol. If all these institutions support us, it is because our work is appreciated. Our “small list”, as it has been called by our opponents, is determined to create a surprise. When there is disagreement and different projects, the democratic logic is to position ourselves in the first round and present our project. And that is the case.
Regarding the second round, the results of the first round will be decisive and will dictate the next steps. All possibilities have been studied, but one thing is certain: there will be no alliance with LFI. In politics, it is about not lying to people and telling the truth. In this regard, we have an ethical duty to the people of Castanet. I am very attached to this.
