GRAND ENTRETIEN – What political lessons can be drawn from the death of Quentin? The former socialist deputy and the Quebec sociologist both point to the responsibility of LFI.

Julien Dray, former socialist deputy, emphasizes the climate of violence and confrontation, while Mathieu Bock-Côté, a Quebecois sociologist, deplores the staging of a false equivalence between the far left and far right.

LE FIGARO MAGAZINE. – Fifteen days after the death of Quentin in Lyon, some observers have described a skirmish between the far left and the far right, while others have called it a lynching. What is your opinion?

Julien Dray. – One does not exclude the other. There can be a skirmish and a lynching afterwards, a skirmish that goes wrong. The images clearly show that there was a confrontation between two groups. Then, there is a persecution of two activists who are on the ground and who are truly lynched by the Jeune garde militants. So, there was indeed a fight that went wrong, with a shameful and dirty behavior from those who pounced on this young man on the ground.

Mathieu Bock-Côté. – The images are clear, of ultra-left militants.
